Today || Tony Allen 70 - Nigeria 50

When: 6 October 2010
Where: Barbican Hall

Tickets: £13.50 - 22.50
Start Time: 7:30pm

Details as follows:

Celebrating Tony Allen’s 70th Birthday and 50 years of Nigeria’s independence, this concert features guest collaborators who he has worked with over the years.
Born in August 1930, and a self-taught musician, he began to play at the age of eighteen, a fan of American jazz but also fascinated by traditional music and with the percussion work of Ghanaian Guy Warren, who mixed traditional rhythms with the new sounds of American bebop. Invited to audition for a jazz-highlife band by Fela Kuti in 1964, he became an original member of Kuti’s Koola Lobitos highlife-jazz band and started a decades-long musical relationship. This special evening marks Tony Allen’s 70th birthday and features several special guests collaborators who Allen has worked with over the years.

This year also marks Nigeria’s 50th anniversary of Independence and Allen has been at the centre was at the centre of Afrobeat, which is Nigeria’s most influential musical export – which combined the heavy groove and universal appeal of soul with jazz, highlife, and the polyrhythms of Yoruba music. Allen’s fusion of drum styles perfectly complemented Fela’s new African groove and he recorded over 30 albums with Fela and Africa ’70 – widely regarded as Fela’s best works. He has also worked with Manu Dibango, King Sunny Ade and Ray Lema. While often returning to the Afrobeat template that made his name, in the years since Allen has also worked with a broad range of rock acts, such as Jimi Tenor, Sebastien Tellier, Charlotte Gainsbourg and, to general acclaim, with Damon Albarn, Paul Simonon as the group The Good, The Bad and the Queen.

'There is no question that Tony Allen is a genius, one of the greatest percussionists in the history of popular music.'

Music | T3M (Guvna B, Faith Child + Victizzle) @ Indigo2

When: Friday 13th August
Where: Indigo2

Details as follows:

Start:7:30 // Finish: Late

Victizzle, Faith Child and Guvna B are really the talk of London Town at present. Their Indigo2 gig is set to sell out and some thought it wouldn't be possible. Check out what's in store for this very special concert!!!!!

T3M [Guvna B, Faith Child, Victizzle]

Three of UK gospel music’s most brightest stars have come together to form a one-off monumental project, namely ‘T3M’. The three musketeers is a campaign that Faith Child, Guvna B and Victizzle have created with the vision of “making gospel music mainstream”.

MOBO award winner Victizzle, UMA award winner Guvna B, and Cordless Show winner Faith Child have set sail on a two-fold project which includes a single release titled ‘Echo’, and an ambitious attempt to sell out London’s world renowned Indig02 music venue.

The groundbreaking live event named ‘T3M : Live at the Indig02’ takes place on Friday the 13th of August and this correlates with the release of their up-tempo single ‘Echo’.

The three pioneers faithfully take a gigantic step forward in bringing gospel music out of the four walls of the church and placing it in a mainstream environment accessible to all. Taking their talents and message to a venue formerly graced by musical icons such as Madonna, Beyonce and the Black Eyed Peas.

The T3M motto is ‘all for one – one for all’ and Guvna B, Faith Child, and Victizzle each hope that the statement is echoed.

In the hope of displaying Jesus to a mainstream audience and engaging with people who may not know Him, or may not go to church, the three guys feel it important for Christians all over the capital to support their vision and in turn propel the single ‘Echo’ into the charts and also see thousands turn up to witness the spectacle at the Indig02.

Tickets start from £15 you can buy them here
