Akilah Live is back this month with another night full of cross arts brought to you by some of London’s up and coming talent.

COMEDY:

Josephine Lacey
Her first stand-up gig was on the 28th of October ’08 at a comedy showcase in Camden. After performing at the showcase I was given the opportunity to perform on the main stage of The Hackney Empire for the 10th anniversary of ‘The Comedy School.’ She has performed alongside established comedians such as Felix Dexter, Phil Jupitus, Nina Conti, Arthur Smith, Josie Lawrence, Shazia Mirza and Quincy. She now performs regularly on the comedy circuit. 

POETRY: 

LyricistSistah Saffron Mykels

Twenty one year old LyricistSistah Saffron Mykels - better known as Saffy - was born an raised in South East London. With her brutally honest lyrics and cool, calm and collected delivery, touching on subjects that many would wince at discussing, Saffy expresses herself through poetry and songwriting and singing. 

G.R.E.E.D.S
Performance poet, G.R.E.E.D.S (Generating Rhymes to Engage the EnlighteneD Soul) has been performing in the circuit (underground/open mic) for three years, writing from roughly 11 (now 25.) His aim is to bring some awareness of Spoken word on a much broader scale. His style combines music with poetry. Last year he ventured in completing his own album followed by a launch. Coming into this year he is still fully believes in branching out a lot more and being one of many to fly the flag of the Art form.

Jay Bernard
Author of Your Sign is Cuckoo, Girl (2007), which was the poetry book society's pamphlet choice for summer 2008. She was recently poet in residence on allotments in London and Oxford, and at the Benenden School in Kent. She has read her work on radio shows such as The Verb, The Green Room and the Today Show; and appeared at venues from Trafalgar Square and Shakespeare's Globe, at festivals such as Vienna Lit in Austria and Latitude. brrnrrd.wordpress.com.
